Today we had a special Tionól for St. Patrick’s Day. Unlike normal, Junior and Senior Infants attended. Tionól started with prayers and the story of St. Patrick from Mr. O’ Neill’s class. Next we saw a slide show about St. Patricks day showing pictures that symbolise St. Patrick. Afterwards, Mr. Connolly’s tin whistle group played Níl na lá and On Ragglin’ Road on the tin whistle. Mr Connolly and four members of his class played two polkas, a more difficult song than most others. Mr. Connolly then brought up six people from different classes asked them to clap a beat on the stage. Soon after, Ms. Giblin directed the school in some Irish songs including Oró Sé Do Bheatha ‘Bhaile, Cockles and Mussels and Wagon Wheel as gaeilge. To finish off the special Tionól, we sang Amhran Na Bhfiann and Ireland’s Call. At the end of both songs, we all gave a big cheer. (by Cian Coughlan and Cathal O’ Toole)
