Principal’s Message

Principal’s Message 2023-24

This year marks 50 years since St. Mary’s B.N.S. was founded. In 1973 the school didn’t have its current building on the Grange Rd. The school started in 1973 with two prefabs in the grounds of Loreto Primary School. Later the old school (now the Parish Centre) on Willbrook reopened to accommodate two more classes. The site for St. Mary’s School was gifted to the parish by the Loreto Sisters.

The new school building St. Mary’s on the Grange Rd., opened on January 10th, 1977, with 243 pupils and a teaching staff of seven. The first principal of St. Mary’s was Mr. Jim Molloy (1973 – 1998), followed by Mr. O’Murchú (1998 – 2005), Mr. Tom Mullins (2005-2016) and currently Mr. O’Riordan (2016 – present). There are currently 411 pupils in the school and a staff of 41.

St. Mary’s has now reached a milestone with 50 years of teaching and learning in the community. The school has been fortunate to have been supported by wonderful parents/guardians over the years. Throughout this coming year there will be a number of events to mark a half a century of education as we look forward to the future.

Happy Golden Jubilee St. Mary’s!

Mr. O’Riordan

Principal
