Corn Kitterick Champions!

St. Mary’s made history in Croke Park on the 27th of October 2017 when they defeated St. Mary’s of Lucan in the Division One Corn Kitterick final. The game was a fantastic contest. The following is  match report written by two boys who played on the day.

The Match

We came to school and there was great excitement. We were brought up on the stage and Mr.O’Neill and Mr.Breathnach said something nice about each boy on the panel. We then left for Croke Park on our lovely bus. After the team arrived, we watched the match before us. When the game before us reached half time we went down to the warm up area. We got our boots and started our usual warm up. All of a sudden the match official called us to come out onto the pitch. When we stepped out onto the pitch the St. Marys supporters made a deafening roar. We lined up for our picture, did a little bit of shooting practise and the ball was thrown in…..

At the start we were really close and we missed a good few chances and when the half time whistle blew we were down by three. In the half time team talk Mr. Breathnach and Mr. O’Neill told us to take our points and don’t always go for goal.  We came out in the second half with fire in our bellies. It was really close for a stage but after the 15 minute mark we started to pull away and ended up winning by 13 points. When we got back to the dressing room we were all screaming and shouting with delight. There was a big surprise party for us when we got back to the school. Thanks to Valerie and the Parents Association for organising it.

We would like to thank Mr.Breathnach and Mr.O’Neill for all the hard work they put into us. Everyone really appreciated it. We wouldn’t be able to do it if it wasn’t for our excellent coaches.
